After the passage of North Carolina’s Amendment 1 last week, nine gay and lesbian couples filed applications for marriage in protest last week. Their applications were denied, of course, but adding insult to injury, two lesbians, Mary Jamis, 52, and her partner Starr Johnson, were arrested as well as another protester. They were arrested for refusing to leave the office until their applications for marriage were approved.
